During a daily time lapse during my everyday work, I discuss my thoughts on what a formal blacksmith education is worth. 

I highly encourage learning under a skilled blacksmith, but just as important is the time spent at the hammer and anvil putting that knowledge to practice. 

If you want to be an artist blacksmith, you do not have to have a formal blacksmithing education. Yes, there are blacksmith education requirements out there. Yes, you could obtain a blacksmith college degree. But knowledge without action is useless. So if you want to be  a full time blacksmith, learn and practice. You can run your own hand forged business. Making a living as an artist blacksmith requires more than a degree, it requires practical business sense, and the hand skill required to forge the type of items you need to for your niche.
