These battles are pathetic. Sure, Balnab can deal some damage, but whatever he does, you can easily recover from. Also, you don't get any EXP from the first battle, so that's one less thing to worry about.

Then we have Lugaborg. Did that laser just deal four digit damage? Ooooh, scary. Well, it would have been if he used it more often than every 5th turn (or something). It also starts dealing less damage towards the end, so it's not a problem to leave Yang alone before he finishes him off and takes all the EXP. Also, what's the deal with the statuses? What's the point of inflicting a status if you heal it again immediately?
