Rai-ki Vav/Raniki Vav Step Well stopped us in our tracks when we finally beheld the gigantic scope extending 7 stories down. It lay undiscovered for years and years, filled with mud and silt. And then just imagine the labor involved digging out the mess and restoring the damage. There is conjecture as to whether it was deliberately buried during the Muslim invasions to keep the well from destruction.

Can you imagine the cost to unearth with piegons, animals and the yearly monsoon that floods the step well? Water has to be pumped out yearly.

Most of the sculptures are in devotion to Vishnu. There are sun symbols on ceilings, magnificent sculptures of goddesses, apsaras (beautiful, supernatural women), nagakanyas, yoginis (female demons or sorceresses). Please don't forget to Subscribe Share and Like. Thanks.
