WARNING: Slightly graphic injury. Days five and ten after the initial injury on 22 January 2015 where Peanut suffered a severe laceration to the nose exposing quite a bit of the nostrils' mucous membrane. The wound has been healing well, despite some signs of infection when this was taken. Both ears have abscesses that Peanut is doing a good job keeping open so they'll drain. The injuries he sustained are most likely is caused by a fight with another male which is common this time of the year during the height of the breeding season. We're pleased that he ate well despite the injury. Raccoons are extraordinarily resilient when injured and oftentimes will heal without human intervention. However we'll continue to monitor the injury closely. NOTE: Our rescue raccoons resides in a region where there hasn't been a case of raccoon rabies for over three decades which is tracked by the local public health department. We are fortunate to be able to observe and professional work with a variety of wildlife species since we reside next to a protected wildlife preserve. Our rescue raccoons lounge and play on our terrace as well as use it as a thoroughfare. No children nor pets are ever harmed, especially the wild animals captured in these videos. Please note that none of the raccoons are our pets thus please follow your local wildlife guidelines for the safety of humans and animal wildlife alike. © Weekly Whiskers All Rights Reserved 15-IPH6P
