KUSA-WAKE sprang up as part of the "Domestic Rush Floor Carpet Brand Creation Project" comprised of four companies that manufacture products made of rush. The primary material used in KUSA-WAKE is rush. Typically associated with tatami mats, this environmentally and people friendly material also purifies the air, adjusts modulation of humidity, and exhibits antibacterial properties. Oki Town of Society and Commerce intends to expand the image of rush or KUSA-WAKE not only limited to tatami mats, but to include its application in a wide array of everyday products. The project is promoting the purchase of products made exclusively of rush grown in Japan by emphasizing the naturalness, healthfulness, high quality, and comfort of these products.
