Western Cape drought declared a national disaster

The drought that is gripping large parts of the western half of the country has been declared a national disaster. The Department of Co-operative Governance elevated the status of the drought to a "national disaster" after reassessing its magnitude and severity. While day zero is encroaching on Cape Town, the supply dams to the biggest metro in the Eastern Cape, Nelson Mandela Bay, are at their lowest levels ever, sitting below a combined 25 percent of capacity.
