http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com The very large Ganzi/Ganze Monastery is new. Not because of the Cultural Revolution but monks decided to raze the old monastery and build a new one. It is the largest Gelugpa sect monastery in the Kham region with a nunnery right behind Ganzi. The most interesting section ia a "museum" room that had miscellaneous objects donated by the Tibetan people including 1,000 year old swords, old thangkas, silver knives, beads, rifles and even a few machine guns!
