The worst of Evan has passed for most Fijians, with a day or so of brutally heavy winds and rain, causing some rivers to overflow or come close to that stage. Cyclone Evan remains a Category 3 storm, even after it hugged the western coast of the two main islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, as a Category 4 storm. Evan is now heading directly southward, and is expected to encounter New Zealand as a post-tropical cyclone. Winds may still be gusty, and the storm could cause flooding on North Island in a few days time. Thankfully, no fatalities have yet been reported in Fiji, but the death toll remains at 4 from Evan's Samoan passage, where over 10 remain missing.
