Rinpoche began by explaining that all the lamrim teachings came from Lama Atisha’s Lamp of the Path to Enlightenment. Rinpoche then explained the whole story how Lama Atisha went to Tibet to give this teaching. Rinpoche told the story of Gyalwa Dromtonpa telling one man to “practice dharma – renounce this life”. Rinpoche spoke about the 8 worldly dharmas. Rinpoche explained about the stickers that he has on his car and what they mean. Rinpoche then spoke that if you want to achieve enlightenment for sentient beings, to bring them to enlightenment, all of this depends on the root of the path, how you correctly follow the virtuous friend. Everything depends on that. Rinpoche then spoke about a talk he gave to the 300 nuns in south India. He advised them to remember at the beginning of every activity to think “I’m following His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s wishes” to always remember this. Then the life doesn’t become the servant of self-cherishing thought, that the self-cherishing thought is the guru. Otherwise everything becomes service for yourself, nothing becomes cause of enlightenment. If you remember that you are following His Holiness’s advice, wishes, then every single thing is fulfilling His Holiness’s wishes, advice, so everything becomes the highest way to collect merit, most powerful purification, and in this way all the time, whatever you do constantly, you become closer to enlightenment.
