In the technical part of this Fight class, we worked on the Overhand Punch and set ups for this technique. (Level 2 technique).

The beginning of this video shows an example of the Overhand Punch being used successfully during live sparring:

Michael is in the black shirt and JJ is in the gray shirt. JJ fakes a Jab (Level 1) to the head but changes levels and lands the Jab on Michael's body. JJ looks to be attempting another technique and Michael counters by throwing a Defensive Back Kick with a Spin (Level 3). This is an excellent counter against an opponent attempting a body punch because they will run right into the kick. But JJ sees it coming, covers his body and head with his arms, and retreats out. Next, JJ changes levels and fakes a Jab to the body. Because the previous Jab to the body landed, Michael is aware of it and lands a Front Kick with the Ball of the Foot (Level 1) to JJ's body as he advances in. However, because he thinks the punch is going to his body, he drops his hands. This sets up the Overhand Punch from JJ that lands clean on Michael's chin. They both show good sportsmanship after the exchange by touching gloves.

Thank you JJ for teaching this Fight class for me while I was away to teach a Self Defense workshop!
