I picked up the Blackjacks about a week before they became a trial mech, which I count as a fortuitous occurrence. The matchmaker is rarely ever kind to the mechs of lower weight within their specific weight classes. The hilariously named BJ has a couple chassis issues. It's lightly armored and its speed (sans the BJ-1X) is "meh." It's a ton inefficient because of the heatsink/engine cap. Mechs in this engine range suffer from needing extra tonnage for HS on top of needing to fit ballistics or energy heavy builds. It hurts a lot. On its good side the mech has a very nice profile, high mounted arm weapons (energy & ballistic), and half its variants have jump jets. The BJ-1 and BJ-3 are the real shining stars of the bunch simply because they have those JJs. I heavily prefer the BJ-1 for its AC/20. I've been using that weapon since closed beta, and I still look to it when it comes time to clear out the lights. In case you were wondering, I go for legs a lot because they're easy to hit when running/twisting, you may need to run away as a medium, lights/ammo toting boats don't do well without them, and if it's Alpine everyone should be legging each other anyway.
