#HeartwarmingMoments: Photographer takes wedding photos for 60 migrant worker couples

“Look at your wife affectionately but be relaxed… perfect,” the photographer said while giving tips to 45-year-old Qin Yexin, who was a bit camera shy.

Qin and his wife, Bi Fangju, both migrant workers at a construction site in Changsha, Central China’s Hunan Province, have been married for 23 years. Except for the photo that is required on their marriage certificate, the couple barely had any photos shot together, not to mention wedding photos.

When Qin said he felt guilty for not being able to afford a better life for his wife, Bi comforted him, saying: “My husband works and cares a lot about me, for that I’m very grateful.”

The photographer then captured the moment when the couple looked into each other’s eyes, smiling through tears.

Luo Xian, the photographer behind the camera, recently captured some special moments for 60 couples who are migrant workers for free of charge in Changsha, hoping to draw more attention to their emotional and spiritual world.

Luo said the idea of wedding shoots for migrant workers originated from a talk she had with a young man in her studio who did remodeling work. He said to Luo that wedding shoots are a luxury for people like him.

Luo and her team then launched a free wedding shoots program and set up a temporary studio at a construction site in Changsha to invite migrant worker couples like the young worker.

“I’ve never seen my wife wear a wedding dress,” said 63-year-old Lv Youdao, a project manager at the construction site, recalling the moment when he told Zhang Dafen, his wife of 40 years, about the free wedding photo project, who was at first reluctant to come because of her shyness and lack of confidence in her appearance.

When his wife finally appeared at the shooting set wearing delicate make-up and a wedding dress, Lv was full of emotion and felt like when they first met 40 years ago.

“They have to work hard to make a living and aren’t used to expressing their feelings for each other,” said Luo, who sits and talks with each couple before a photo shoot to get to know more about their stories of life and love.

“They express their love not with romantic words, but with years of loyalty and companionship, in a down-to-earth manner of what love originally looked like: pure, simple, and powerful,” Luo said.
