A woman filming a beautiful Monarch butterfly was stunned when it was pounced upon by a well-camouflaged praying mantis.

Nature enthusiast, Ashley Carson, captured the events in her back garden in Hutchinson, Kansas, after she had seen the butterfly on some flowers, outside her window.

Whilst going to take a closer look at the butterfly on Friday August 17, she was totally unaware of the hungry mantis laying in wait just inches away. 

Within a matter of seconds, the predator had pounced on the butterfly during a gust of wind and grasped it before munching away.
