Just after 1 p.m. Monday afternoon MCHD and several fire departments including Needham and Central Montgomery County were dispatched to a reported injured man in a tree in the 700 block of Holly Springs in the River Plantation subdivision. Within minutes that changed to a fall victim.

First units arrived moments later to find a man on the ground with a possible back injury and severe facial trauma. PHI Air Medical was requested as crews worked to stabilize him. He was then transported to the entrance of River Plantation where PHI flew him to Hermann Hospital in Houston in critical condition.

According to officials on the scene the man had been cutting a large pine tree in the front yard of a home. His rope slipped causing him to fall approximately five-feet and slamming his face into the tree. It was at this point that his 16-year-old nephew, seeing all the blood from the facial injury became panicked and cut the rope that was holding the injured man. This caused him to fall approximately fifteen to twenty feet to the ground.
