Jelawat is officially no more, but only after crossing Japan during its extratropical transition, killing two and injuring over fifty. Jelawat was the second Category 5 storm of the 2012 Pacific typhoon season, and therefore meaning that 8 out of the last 10 seasons have had two or more Category 5 storms in the year. Jelawat paralleled the Philippines as a Super Typhoon, washing away two people on the islands, before curving northeastwards on its closest approach to Taiwan, and then causing stormy conditions on the Ryukyu Islands. Jelawat lost typhoon status a short while before making landfall on mainland Japan, and from then on started losing its tropical characteristics and structure. Feel free to comment on how well I covered Jelawat throughout its lifetime.
