Government ordered to pay R1.2 million to victims of Life Esidimeni

Monday, retired Deputy Chief Justice, Dikgang Moseneke released his scathing judgement on the deaths of the 144 mentally ill and the 1 400 patients who have survived "torturous conditions" after being transferred from Life Esidimeni hospital to unregistered and ill prepared NGO's in 2016. He also ordered government to pay the families of the deceased victims one-point-two-million rand (1, 200 000) in total for a variety of violations, including constitutional damages.
