This is a US Navy training film describing the benefits of handling materials as “Unit Loads”, ie palletised. It shows the processes employed to handle loads of boxes on pallets, using forklift trucks, articulated trailer lorries, rail trucks, in-warehouse trailer trains, flat-bed trailers and finally loading techniques on a dockside. It shows the methods of materials handling being adopted by the US Navy, from commercial practise, to cope with the vast quantities of materials being shipped around during World War 2.
