Filmed 04/14/17 @ 4:20pm Friday afternoon I was in Independence having to do a couple errands, but afterwards I had an hour or so to kill, so I went over to the Amtrak Station. It was around 4pm and I knew the 316 would arrive soon, and right on time, she showed up at 4:20pm. If you're wondering what that yellowish lump is in the middle of the tracks... it was a dead cat. I could barely make it's face out but it had been there a while. It was bloated and insects were buzzing all around it. I figured it was hit by a train, but it's body was intact. While I was setting up, there is a fenced in area behind where I was, and it has a lot of trees and brush. I heard something back n there moving around and when I turned around to look, there was a good sized raccoon plodding around in there looking for food. I didn't think much of it, leave it alone, it'll leave me alone. So I filmed the train pull in, and leave, as I was collapsing my tripod I looked back into the fenced area, and saw the other side of the raccoon, it was tore up. It's left shoulder was ripped wide open and looked very badly infected. Mange may have been setting in too. Kinda makes me think if it and the cat got into it, he may have killed the cat, but the cat didn't go down without one massive fight. Either way, the raccoon didn't look like it was going to last much longer. Ah... nature. Anyway, yeah this description was less about the train, but this was something I don't see everyday. Anyway, the final part of the Rock Island switching set will be up Sunday, and then I'll start a new set with different power, different roads, and different areas of the Park. So, stay tuned, more on the way and like always, thanks for watching!
