Kyokuwa is launching its new "ta-tum" brand of aesthetic tatami mats that were awarded the Good Design Award.

Because the surface is made of a polypropylene material, the new mats don't absorb water and are resistant to mold and mites. The mats are also washable with water and can therefore be used outdoors as well.

The mats are available in rich color variations including some original colors and can be coordinated with various interiors in a way that is tailored to each persons aesthetic tastes.

A nonslip sheet is adhered to the entire back surface of each mat to prevent the mats from sliding, and multiple "ta-tum" mats can be connected to form beautiful patterns.

Each ta-tum mat is carefully handcrafted using traditional manufacturing techniques and the latest materials, and the sturdiest possible finish is ensured by adhering to traditional methods particularly for folding the edges of each mat.
