The much-awaited biopic of YS Rajasekhara Reddy, which is titled Yatra, is hitting the screens on October 21 this year. The film has Malayalam superstar Mammootty playing the former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh.

There is a significance to the date October 21. It is the birthday of YSR's son YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who is the founder and president of YSR Congress.

Unlike other biopics, Yatra does not chronicle the entire life of YSR. Instead, the story is just about the historic padayatra of YSR that changed the course of Andhra Pradesh's politics.

In 2003, YSR took a long walk across the state and covered about 1,475 km on foot. This assured the victory of his party in the 2004 election and he then did the same thing in 2009.

Yatra will document this remarkable event from the state's history. Directed by Mahi Raghav, the film went on floors on June 20 this year.

According to reports, Tamil actor Karthi will play the role of YS Jaganmohan Reddy, son of YSR. Anasuya Bharadwaj and Posani Murali are other actors who are part of this project.
