Jack floats far downriver from the temple ruin and takes shelter in a cave, while the six surviving Daughters of Aku track him. He hallucinates an argument with himself over whether he can bring himself to kill all the Daughters if necessary. As Jack and a wounded wolf both recover from their injuries in the cave, he remembers a time from his youth when his father offered to spare the lives of several bandits if they left in peace, then fought and killed them all when they refused. Once Jack is fully healed, he sets out into the snowy forest; as the Daughters close in, he makes them the same offer as his father gave the bandits. When they refuse, he quickly kills three and lures the others to a deep abyss, where he knocks two over the edge and lets the third fall in. Before Jack can return to solid ground, though, the log he is standing on breaks and he too falls into the abyss.
