K-Kon '09 slideshow, edited by Alvin Franco. This is Hawaii's own annual convention that takes place in the Oahu Convention Center. Photos are of cosplayers, guest stars, special events, etc. If you see yourself, feel free to shout it out! ;D Anything Kawaii-Kon is up for discussion here, as well as criticism for the slideshow. I do appreciate any feedback, so tell me what you think! It covers a bit of everything that went on, so anyone watching should find something to enjoy. But primarily, this slideshow follows the exploits myself, and various friends from Kealakehe Anime Club. Hope you enjoy! *****Read on for "behind-the-scenes" details!***** I spent tons of time making this. Mostly because I'm very keen on adding a "Ken Burns" effect to my photos. (Pictures zoom in, out, or pan across. Much more interesting than stationary slides.) I was quite picky about that. Might not seem obvious, but it makes a difference. I started with about 1000 pictures to choose from. The hard part was deciding which ones to eliminate to fit in a fair time-span. I had fun with the soundtrack. I wanted to keep it relevant to this year, and this kon, while matching the themes. So I organized it accordingly. It's mostly chronological, with a chunk in the middle, dedicated to all cosplayers, in no chronological order. MUSIC: "IT's" by Kotani Kinya, from Tsubasa Season 2, starts the show. (Fans of Tsubasa may appreciate my little homage, as the camera pans up on the KKon mascots, similar to the anime's opening.) This covers all of Day 1. Guest star panels, Cosplay Theater, Lolita Fashion Show, and Buma's Butishake rave. (I regret, I couldn't get any shots of Formal Ball. I hadn't planned to go, and didn't want to buy the tickets just to snap pictures.) I chose this song because Tsubasa began it's second season in English this year! Tsubasa is created by CLAMP, and in the story, characters from older CLAMP titles make appearances. It's kinda reflective of anime conventions... where characters, cosplayers, and creators from many different animes and different worlds all come together for a few days, interacting in ways you won't see anywhere else! Pretty sweet, I think. ^_^ "Unlimited" by Nanase Aikawa, from Samurai 7. This song covers the start of Day 2, and features solo cosplayers/group photos in no chronological order. Samurai 7 is a great anime I was introduced to this year. (Based on Akira Kurosawa's film "The Seven Samurai".) By now it's a few years old, but this year, it's been released on Blu-Ray! "Super Smash Brothers Brawl Theme" encompasses all the "game" aspects of the con. Video game cosplayers, video-gaming/table-top gaming rooms, merchandise, etc. I chose this song in honor of Brawl coming out for the Wii this year. It's an awesome multi-player game, so obviously they included it in the VG room! ;) (Side-Note: Another great game that came out was "Street Fighter IV." I considered using THAT theme song, but it's pretty long. Would've dragged the slideshow on far longer than it already is. But it turns out that, translated, the Brawl lyrics contain the "many characters coming together" idea. It's awesome, so no regrets!) "Sakura Kiss" sung by Christina Vee, from Ouran High School Host Club. I don't think this was the best song choice, but honestly, how could I NOT include Ouran? Man, that show just exploded this year! It finally came out in english, and fans have gone wild for it. Within a few months of cast announcements, Funimation completed the entire series! (I myself have only watched the 2 first episodes on Funimation.com ^_^') This song covers the Ouran Panel with Vic Mignogna, Travis Willingham, and Caitlyn Glass - followed by the EPIC Caramel Dansen, led by Goofy. "Makka Na Chikai" by Fukuyama Yoshiki, from Buso Renkin. This song covers Day 2 at night - Cosplay showcase, Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re and Emeralds concerts - then carries on to Day 3, and brings this slideshow to a majestic close. (CAUTION!!! Papillon steals the show toward the end!) Buso Renkin is moderately well-known. It was created by Nobuhiro Watsuki, creator of Rurouni Kenshin. The manga has been available for a while, but the show came out in english this year, in the form of 2 box-sets. I was so excited to include this song... The lyrics don't contain any significance to the slideshow, it's just a seriously awesome tune! I simply LOVE it! It's my personal favorite anime theme to date. Plus, my friend and I cosplayed characters from the series. (Papillon & Captain Bravo.) So call me selfish, but I HAD to use this song. ;) I was literally up for 36 hours straight, editing this slideshow. By the time I reached this segment, I was exhausted. It was the rockin' upbeat melody that kept me going! It's really fast paced, so in attempt to match the tempo and fit more pictures in, I reduced the time of each slide by :15 frames to 1second, while increasing the transition time accordingly. (Yeah. Picky, picky, picky!)
