Voters in Burundi have overwhelmingly approved a new Constitution that could let the president stay in power until 2034.The electoral commission says 73 percent of voters were in favour of amendments extending the presidential term from five to seven years. Voter turnout was good, with 96 percent of the 4.7 million registered voters casting their ballots on Thursday. The results mean President Pierre Nkurunziza can seek two more terms in office. Opposition leaders have slammed the changes, saying they will allow Nkuruziza to operate above the law. Rights groups have also claimed the vote took place in a climate of fear and intimidation -- allegations the government has denied.
