Telescope view of damaged homes near beach ++MUTE++ STORYLINE: US Coast Guard crews took helicopter flights over the worst-hit areas of the Florida panhandle to assess the damage from Hurricane Michael. Crew members also threw several self-locating datum marker buoys out of the helicopter to determine the flow of the storm surge. Heavy rain and flash floods have brought chaos and misery to thousands following the Category 4 hurricane that slammed ashore midweek. The storm brought high winds and floods as far north as Virginia.
