Indonesia Ferry Sinks With 139 Passengers Leaving 12 Dead

Local authorities in Indonesia were scrambling on Tuesday to rescue about 139 passengers from a ferry that sank off the coast of Sulawesi island at 2.30 pm local time on Tuesday, killing at least 12 people. The KM Lestari ferry was sailing from Bira on Sulawesi island to Pamatata on Selayar island when disaster struck in strong winds and waves. Officials said the ferry, with 48 vehicles on board, ran aground after suffering engine damage during turbulence. The hull was damaged, causing the vessel to take on water and list. It was reported that the vessel didn't have enough life jackets for everyone on board.
