EDEN PARK, Ohio (WKRC) - Cincinnati Police closed part of Eden Park Drive Thursday afternoon for an investigation concerning the death of an officer. Around 12:30 p.m., Sgt. Arthur Schultz was discovered deceased on Lakes Drive. He was a senior officer on the Cincinnati Police Department for 28 years. "It is with an extremely heavy heart that I announce here today that we are investigating the death of one of our own," said Cincinnati Police Chief Eliot Isaac. "Officers about 12:30 this afternoon discovered a brother officer deceased in a vehicle here on Lakes Drive." "And we are not pursuing anybody, but we always presume homicide until we prove otherwise. So, we're always going to take in what we have in the way of evidence and facts. At the moment, we don't have any suspects or anything. Is it accidental? Is it natural? Suicide? Homicide? I can tell you it wasn't natural, but that's all I can say at this point," said Hamilton County Coroner Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco. Cincinnati Police haven't released any details of Schultz's death, but they weren't treating the scene as a crime scene. “CPD shares in the pain and tremendous loss of Sergeant Schultz as he will be tremendously missed,” said Isaac in a press release Thursday. Police would not say whether or not Schultz was found inside a police vehicle. Cincinnati Police said Schultz was a well-respected member of the department. He became an officer for District 4 in 1990. He was then promoted to a police specialist in 1995 and a sergeant in 1997 where he served for District 1. He then started serving in the Vice Unit in December 2000. The department is asking the community to keep the Schultz family and the police department in their prayers and to respect the family's privacy during this time.
