(30 Nov 2018) The Carnegie Deli is returning to New York City for a limited time to promote a television series set in the 1950's.
The family that owns the iconic eatery which closed in 2016 is partnering with Amazon Prime Video to create buzz for the second season of  the streaming services show 'The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.'
"This week we're giving New Yorkers a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit the Carnegie Deli," Joshua Greenberg, Executive Producer of the Carnegie Deli pop up said.
The deli had a dress rehearsal with invited guests prior to opening to the public in Lower Manhattan on Saturday. The original deli was located near it's namesake Carnegie Hall for almost 80 years.
"So, the most important thing for us with Carnegie was the food. We really wanted to make sure that when people ate the sandwiches they were as good as the Carnegie Deli sandwiches," Greenberg said.
Visitors to the deli will be able to purchase a pastrami sandwich named after the shows characters for prices not seen since the 50's - .99 cent sandwiches, .50 cent cookies, and cheese cake along with the Carnegie Deli's famous potato knish.
Customers will feel like they have taken a step back in time to the original Carnegie Deli, according to Sarri Harper, V.P. Carnegie Deli Products, and daughter of the deli owners.
"They will see the wall of fame. They'll see the hanging salamis. They will see of course the famous pastrami and cheesecake and black white cookie," Harper said.
She was quick to point out that here family had intentions of reopen the famous deli.
"My mom and I don't currently have any plans to reopen but we are open to opportunities and collaboration," Harper said.
