The people used to extract fibres from pineapple leaves and, through hand spinning, made a soft, sheer, and a little stiff fabric- the piña fabric. Fabrics made from pineapple fibres are very easily cared for. Senior artist Ms Thanga Jyothi is from Kanyakumari. She was awarded for her unique pineapple fibre craftwork.
