How Global High Seas Marine Preserve Came from Danny Quintana's Book, Space & Ocean Exploration: The Alternative to the Military-Industrial Complex: Danny Quintana, founder of GHSMP, knew the ocean situation was bad but it wasn't until writing his latest book and doing intense research he discovered how truly dire the situation had become. Tuna are on the edge of extinction, 100-million sharks a year are killed for their fins to make soup for Asian, millions of tons of fish and marine mammals are swept up as unwanted by-catch by massive industrial fishing trawlers, coral reefs are being leveled by illegal fishing by rogue operators in the South China Sea, and this is just a taste of what is going on around the world. 

Danny Quintana founded the Global High Seas Marine Preserve to protect the high seas by banning industrial in international waters. The Law of the Seas Treaty has to be amended and then it would have to be enforced by maritime military forces of the agreeing nations. The United States Senate has not ratified the treaty so that is another hurdle that must be overcome. Many people the treaty sacrifices American interests and gives international bodies too much say over U.S. policy and maritime activities.
