But even as they keep appreciating, few have the well-preserved presentation you see on this 1970 Toyota FJ40. It has all the right factory elements, and also given it a few of the right upgrades – including air conditioning! The classic khaki tan with white on top makes this look like its fresh from an African safari. And it has a level of originality that instantly recalls how tough these early Land Cruisers were. Also take some time to look over all the details. The hood trim, locking anchors, tow hitch step bumper, and all the badging looks quite correct. You even have factory wheel covers and chunky off road tires. Plus, there's the addition of a power winch to remind you that this classic is still a go-anywhere 4x4. The robust interior is part of the FJ's bulletproof attitude, and this one remains complete, right down to the 4x4 shifting instructions still bolted to the glove box lid. The seating looks good with comfortable covers over the front, and in the rear, the side-mounted jump seats are iconic. You'll grab the thin, grippy steering wheel with correct Toyota center cap in your left hand, and the tall gearstick with your right one – and that's when you'll know what an old-school 4x4 really feels like. But even with all these correct pieces, there's one very handy upgrade.
