WASHINGTON, D.C. - Some veterans and active duty troops are upset with the Pentagon over a new military medal. It's called the Distinguished Warfare Medal and it's set to be awarded to some drone pilots and other cyber warfare experts who've never actually set foot on a battlefield. The new medal, still months away from being awarded, is higher than the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. A spoof of the medal appeared on a Facebook page called the Duffel Blog.To pin something on a guy's chest that ranks higher than the Purple Heart like you mentioned for sitting in an air conditioned trailer playing with a joystick doesn't sit well with me, says retired Air Force Lt. Col. Dan Hampton.5 veterans now serving in Congress are introducing a bill that would prohibit the Defense Department from making the medal equal or higher to the Purple Heart.
