Still walking down Al Muizz Street in the oldest area of Cairo, guide Deen said we had to see the inside of the Sultan Qalawun Complex. He was so right!

The Sultan began building this magnificently ornate burial chamber during his lifetime but died before it was finished. He was buried elsewhere and reinterred when the chamber was finished. Panels were made of inlaid mother of pearl, marble, gorgeous stained glass windows, pillars - nothing but the best for Sultan Qalawun.

Another part of the huge complex contained a school and a hospital. When the Sultan fell ill, he made a holy vow that if he recovered, he would build a hospital that offered patients: FREE, good medical care, clean surroundings, bed, food, and a stipend when they left the hospital. He kept his promise and in its time, the hospital had 400 beds. Quite a complex... Please don't forget to Subscribe Share and Like. Thanks.
