A naive, idealistic outsider stands for election in this sharp and savvy political comedy. Unemployed Seattle music critic Grant Cogswell (Joel David Moore) has a big idea. Inspired by the potential for expanding the city's monorail, he decides to stand for political office. What's more, he intends to take on veteran incumbent Richard McIver (Cedric the Entertainer) in the upcoming city council elections. Grant recruits local alternative journalist Phil Campbell (Jason Biggs) as his campaign manager. But although Phil has a cooler head, he just can't stop his fervent candidate breaking all the rules of political campaigning with a series of hilarious, foul-mouthed speeches. When these start to strike a chord with the city's hipsters who wouldn't otherwise dream of voting, Grant suddenly begins to appear electable! Incredibly based on real events that unfolded in Seattle back in 2001, this is a clever and perceptive comedy for anyone who's ever felt disillusioned by politics.
