You enter your starting point and the destination and the V-Mavi system will guide you using actual video of the route. 

"Because we use multidirectional footage you can see more then simply straight ahead. You can pan the camera to see beside you and even behind you. This is especially useful for crossings."

Tsukuba already has a live demonstation on the Tsukuba City homepage (http://www.city.tsukuba.ibaraki.jp/bb/vmavi/index.htm) and they plan to have the system available inside cars and hence link the database with GPS.
