We met this Balinese Painter Nyoman in a lovely surrounding near ricefields and exotc plants like coffee, pepper, cinnamon outside of Ubud. Nyoman is not only a gifted painter, (we bought a painting with Sarasvati the goddes of Learning and Art, but he also played a short demonstration of the Balinese Xylophone made of Bamboo, also called "Tingklik". The tingklik is an eleven-tube, bamboo xylophone. It is usually played in an ensemble called "rindik" which is comprised of two tingkliks, one suling (bamboo flute), and one drum. Rindik music is performed in restaurants and homes. The Tingklik has a warm sound and I liked the relaxed way how Nyoman was playing it near his studio in an unspoilt nature including the sound of a cockcrow. The movie was made in August 2008 near Ubud.
