Rinpoche teaches here directly to nuns and monks: You may think becoming nun or monk is like living in prison. 'I have been nun or monk for a long time but I didn’t get happy.'You didn’t think to practice lam rim to subdue your own mind. The meaning of life is to use Dharma and achieve lam rim realizations. We are so lucky to live in vows. We willbe free of samsara, achieving the blissful state of peace, nirvana. Furthermore, we are seeing the suffering in the world, generating compassion and bodhicitta and entering theMahayana path, taking the bodhisattva and tantric vows and achieve enlightenment. You may think: if I become lay I will achieve happiness! But being lay you never know -there are so many things you get involved in, maybe resulting in negative karma. You have to know that. You would be like the flies jumping into the flame of a candle. This video was extracted from a teaching that was recorded in Black Mountain, United States on September 7, 2017.
