Good ranch administration depends on the proper management of breeding, pregnancy, calving and weaning within the cowherd. Dr. Ron Gill, Professor and Extension Livestock Specialist with Texas A&M, examines the factors that determine the success or failure of fertility rates and calving within the herd. Gill talks about herd health, bull fertility, managing the calving season and culling strategies. He emphasizes the importance of keeping livestock records to understand the bigger picture of what is going on within the herd. Gill's March 14, 2013 talk was given at the Texoma Cattlemen's Conference in Ardmore, Okla. The annual conference is presented by the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation for the benefit of cattle producers in the Southern Great Plains.
