Houseman Charged With Insulting Agong On Facebook

In Selangor, a houseman was charged at the Klang sessions Court with insulting the Yang Di-pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad Kelima on facebook two years ago. Mohd Faiz Mohd Yusop, aged 29, from Shah Alam, Selangor however, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before judge Tasnim Abu Bakar. He was alleged to have initiated the transmission of the insulting remark against the king on his facebook page on December 16, 2016. The remark was read at a restaurant in Taman Kota Pendamar, Port Klang the same day. The charge, under section 233 (1)(A) of the Communications and Multimedia act 1998, carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or jail term of one year, or both, if convicted. The court allowed mohd faiz bail of RM7,000 with one surety and set March 15 for remention.
