http://www.TravelsWithSheila.com Subway, train from Kyoto through Osaka, local train to Tenri followed by a long walk through a mall to the Yamanobe-no-michi trailhead. By this time (11:15a), I was almost to tired to even think of walking 10 miles. This particular trail is considered to be the oldest in Japan and the trailhead began close to the main temples of the Tenrikyo Sect, flying their purple flags in anticipation of a big festival tomorrow. On a very well-marked trail that even idiot, me, could easily follow on my own, through small towns, fields and burial mounds. Lunch at the halfway point in a small restaurant near the visitor's center that served either rice or soba noodles, each prepared in at least six different ways. Do you have any idea how long it took Yumiko to translate the choices (written in Japanese) for 10 people? And then for each person to decide what they wanted? Yes...forever!
