Black backed jackals will eat just about anything: they take the path of least work to get their food. They will readily scavenge and are often seen around lion, leopard and hyena kills. They will also eat fruits and berries. They do not seem to have a preference to any one particular type of food, they will eat whatever is available. The Black-backed Jackal usually lives together in pairs that last for life, but often hunts in packs to catch larger prey such as the Impala and antelopes. When they do hunt, they are very successful hunters.
