This is a tortuous 8-hr journey, both ways and crosses the Suez Canal ( where we weren't allowed to take photos!). This was a lucky day for us since we ended up in a small group of five with our own guide. A local who was awesome and had the most peculiar English accent (in a good way). We visited the Citadel of Salah ad-Din, the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, had lunch on the Nile and, of course, took in the pyramids and sphinx. The highlight of our trip to Egypt turned out to be an unexpected camel ride. around the Pyramids. Have you drunk a cold Coca Cola in the midday sun while sitting on a camel? No, until now, I haven't either! The pyramids were huge and very impressive - despite the number of hawkers. And the sphinx looks strangely disproportionate. It is well worth a day trip to see the sights in Cairo. It is hectic, busy, chaotic, hot, sunny, dusty and tiring. But a hell of a ride. A massive thumbs up from me!
