An eight-year-old girl of the Bakherwal community at the Rassana area of Kathua was gang-raped repeatedly and killed mercilessly just to instill fear and drive the nomadic tribe out of the region.
A 15-page charge-sheet filed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police in the chief judicial magistrate's court revealed that the act was part of a planned, chilling strategy. Among the six men was one who came all the way from Meerut to "satisfy his lust", the police have told a court. Among the six accused are a sub-inspector and two special police officers.
Meanwhile, the crime has triggered communal tension in the state, with many demanding a CBI probe.
