Apparently there is a softlock in the game where you'll get stuck in the room by confusing the game. What ended up happening was when you enter this room with Rinoa, you talk to her to progress the game. If Rinoa is not with you, she will come in when you talk to Angelo. After you walk into the room, before you talk to Rinoa with Angelo there you have a few frames where you can talk to Angelo as he auto runs out of the room. If you do this the game gets confused and won't let you leave the room. (as you can see from the dialog Squall says when talking to Angelo and how Rinoa respawns).
