A private company has 'conquered' the Red Fort, one of India's most prominent historical monuments and a national icon. The Dalmia Bharat group has bagged the maintenance contract for Rs 25 crore for five years beating Indigo and GMR group in the run. 

Every Independence Day India's Prime Minister addresses the nation from the ramparts of the fort. For long, the fort has been synonymous with the regime that ruled India. 

More than 90 monuments are up for ‘adoption’ under the government's “Adopt a Heritage” scheme . Under this scheme, the tourism ministry has invited private and public sector companies to become 'Monument Mitras' and maintain the heritage sites.
