The Blaarkop or blister head cow got its name because of the red or black ring around the eyes: blaarkop is Dutch for blister head. The body is solid red or black, while the head is white with a red or black ring (blister) around the eyes; the tail has a white tip. Its main breeding area is in the province of Groningen in the Netherlands. The breed has been mentioned as early as the 14th century. It is a dual-purpose cow: suited for both meat and dairy production. Unlike many other races, the Blaarkop has few problems with natural barriers. This makes him very suited for grazing in (wet) nature reserves. HD stockshots broadcast format available at: http://www.stockshot.nl/ -
