Healthcare Providers: Take the PLEDGE to talk about physical activity to your patients with disabilities. Go to www.nchpad.org/pledge/doctalk and use #doctalk in your conversations on social media. Key findings include: 1. Working age adults with disabilities are three times more likely to have heart disease, stroke, diabetes or cancer than adults without disabilities. 2. Nearly half of adults with disabilities get no aerobic physical activity, an important protective health behavior to help avoid these chronic diseases. 3. Inactive adults with disabilities were 50 percent more likely to report at least one chronic disease than were active adults with disabilities. 4. Adults with disabilities were 82 percent more likely to be physically active if their doctor recommended it. NCHPAD (National Center on Health, Physical Activity and Disability) is the nation’s premier center in promoting the health and wellness of people with disability.
