From the director of 'Contraband' comes an incredible true story of survival against the odds in a freezing ocean. A rowdy group of Icelandic fishermen enjoy an alcohol-fuelled blowout on the eve of going to sea. The following day, they're fishing off the coast of the volcanic Westman Islands when their boat capsizes. Muscular Gulli (Olafur Dari Olafsson) struggles unsuccessfully to save the lives of fellow crewmen Palli (Johan G. Johannsson) and Hannes (Bjorn Thors) in the freezing water. He then swims for hours, finally being washed ashore as the sole survivor. Scientists are baffled by this amazing feat and Gulli becomes an inspirational national hero. But his return to normality proves to be difficult. Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur returned home after his Hollywood debut 'Contraband' to make this astonishing film based on real events that unfolded in 1984. The film was Iceland's official entry for Best Foreign Language Feature at this year's Oscars.
