An adoptive mother and former Bedford County School teacher has been charged with felony child abuse. This after giving one of her children second degree burns. People here in this quiet Rutherford neighborhood say every time they saw the Hunters and their adoptive children they seemed to be a close cheerful family. Eva Kirkland, "They just seem like a happy family I have never seen anything you know - I have heard no yelling or screaming or anything negative." So folks here were shocked to hear 43 year old Cynthia Hunter a teacher at Bedford County Schools was arrested for felony aggravated child abuse of her 14 year old adopted son on Thursday. Sue Weller says, "On this street? It is so quiet." According to detectives hunter allegedly threw a plate of hamburger helper in her son's face- causing second degree burns and severe blisters on his forehead and left cheek. Kirkland says, "I am shocked to hear that there is anything negative coming from that household." Detectives say there was no medical attention for the teen the night of the incident- but the next day the 14 year old went to the school nurse at his Rutherford County School. Detectives say it was only after the investigation began that the boy's father took him to the doctor. We tried to contact Cynthia Hunter for a comment, but she did not answer her door. Bedford County Schools' superintendent's office confirmed hunter has resigned. Hunter posted an 8 thousand dollars bond. A court hearing for the charge is set for April 18th. The Department of Children's Services removed both the 14-year-old and two other adopted children from the home. _______________ Stay up to date with our social media: WZTV on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/foxnashville/ WZTV on Twitter: https://twitter.com/FOXNashville Subscribe to WZTV on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCouaZqnOJay2Lacj8fomO3Q/?sub_confirmation=1 Daily News Playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0NoehDI3QdbEPqmgxbSwBNiScxUXS0PR For more information, visit https://fox17.com/ Have a news tip?
