A question for Gary (inmendham): Rationality alone (ie, the thinking ego) leads to nothing but thoughts about thoughts. In order to act, we need the will (I am not asserting a free will in the strong sense by referring to the faculty of will, just to that part of the mind opposite the part that thinks: the part that acts). So what is the nature of the emotion or disposition that leads to such a selfless act as attempting to end suffering for all beings?
