Government To Sell Jewellery, Luxury Items Seized From Najib

Finance Minister, Lim Guan Eng said the government would sell the jewellery and luxury items seized from Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. In an interview with the Associated Press, he however said the value of the seized items was still “a drop in the ocean” compared to the losses in 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB). Lim also said there are many “mini 1MDB” scandals on a smaller scale that will be revealed over time. On Wednesday, police revealed that cash and items worth RM1.1 billion were seized during raids at several premises linked to the former Prime Minister. They include some 12,000 pieces of jewellery over 1,000 handbags and watches and more than 200 sunglasses. Datuk Seri Najib however, claimed most of the items were gifts from foreign dignitaries over decades and the police valuation was grossly inflated.
